Damals nahm Joey Lykins an, dass er das Piercing womöglich verschluckt hatte. Also ersetzte er das Septum-Piercing und kümmerte sich zunächst nicht weiter darum. Denn es war nicht sein Einziges.
"Ich habe ein Faible für Piercings und Tattoos“, schildert Lykins gegenüber dem Online-Newsportal „Metro.co.uk“. Zunächst habe er nicht mehr viel über den verschwundenen Nasenring nachgedacht, bis er fünf Jahre später so heftig hustend aufwachte, dass er sich selbst ins Krankenhaus brachte. Er habe plötzlich den Eindruck gewonnen, dass etwas seine Atemwege sehr stark blockierte.

Röntgenbild zeigt Grund für üble Beschwerden: "Kommt Ihnen das bekannt vor?"
„Gegen 2.30 Uhr hustete ich so stark, dass mein Rücken anfing zu schmerzen, und ich war ein wenig besorgt, also ging ich ins Krankenhaus. Ich dachte, ich hätte vielleicht eine Lungenentzündung“ beschreibt Laykins die Situation. Tatsächlich suchten die Ärzte im Krankenhaus nach der Lungenentzündung und fertigten ein Röntgenbild an. Als sie dann den Grund für Lykins Beschwerden entdecken, sollen sie fassungslos reagiert haben.

„Der Arzt kam herein, zeigte mir das Röntgenbild und fragte: ‚Kommt Ihnen das bekannt vor?‘ Und Lykins habe sich nur gefragt, ob der Arzt ihn veräppeln will. Denn genau diesen Nasenring hatte er doch gesucht. Der Mediziner sagte Lykins daraufhin noch, er hätte mit ihm den besten Fall der Nacht gewonnen.

Drei Tage später ging Joey Lykin zu einer Bronchoskopie. Ein dünner Schlauch wurde durch seinen Hals und in seine Lunge geführt, das Piercing wurde herausgezogen und Lykins zurückgegeben. Er will den Nasenring als Andenken behalten.
Doch tragen will er das gute Stück jedoch nicht mehr. (mjä)
