Story from Jam Press (Bone Cancer)

‘I was planning my wedding – then doctors told me I had 10cm tumour in my SHIN and life went on hold’

A woman was left in “excruciating pain” for months after doctors found a cancerous tumour in her leg – which was originally thought to be a soft tissue injury.

Ellie Downes, 27, a police officer from York, UK, first started experiencing pain in her knee in October 2020.

Seeking help from medical professionals, she claims to have been told it was a soft tissue injury that just needed time to heal.

After “pushing” doctors to investigate further, she claims they said it was ligament damage and she was referred to a physiotherapist – who then recommended she ask for an MRI.

The scan showed devastating results – revealing a 10cm tumour growing in her tibia, with a subsequent biopsy in July 2021 confirming it was cancerous.

"When I first received my diagnosis, I felt numb," Ellie told http://NeedToKnow.co.uk .

"It took months for reality to sink in.

“I vividly remember being in hospital over Christmas and it just hit me.

"Up until that point, I felt like I was just on a hamster wheel, not having the chance to fully comprehend what was happening.

“Not for one minute did I suspect that my symptoms could be cancer.

"I worried that I was just being dramatic and overcautious.

“I didn't have any of the typical cancer symptoms like weight loss, fatigue, or bruising.

"If I hadn't seen the physiotherapist, I would have just left it and not pushed the doctors any further.

"It's quite scary when I think of it as if the tumour would have continued growing rapidly and could have snapped my bone from the inside.

“This could have resulted in the cancer spreading and a terminal prognosis.”

Doctors removed Ellie’s tibia bone and she underwent chemotherapy treatment immediately, meaning she didn't have time to freeze her eggs.

Story from Jam Press (Clumsy Cancer)

Mum told son had viral infection by doctors devastated after symptoms turn out to be brain tumour – after SEVEN visits to A&E

A mother is warning fellow parents to watch out for unusual health symptoms after claiming doctors said her six-year-old son’s cancer was “viral infection”.

Keiley Ebbs first noticed something was wrong with her little boy, Jett, when he began complaining of pain in his arms and legs, experienced morning sickness and became clumsy, randomly walking into things.

She was allegedly told by medical professionals that the symptoms were a sign of a viral infection.

Sensing in her gut that there was more to her son’s behaviour and after seven visits to A&E, the mum pushed for further investigation.

A devastating scan revealed a brain tumour travelling down his spine.

“They kept saying it was a viral infection, and to take him home and give him over-the-counter medication,” The 38-year-old from Lincolnshire told http://NeedToKnow.co.uk.

“I had it in my head that he had a brain tumour, I’d seen the symptoms before in my job as a carer.

“I was frustrated that the doctors kept saying the same thing and didn’t seem to listen to me.

“I feel like they thought I was exaggerating but I knew there was something seriously wrong with him.”

Returning to A&E for the seventh time on 13 December, doctors agreed to give Jett a CT scan and the results were horrifying.

He was diagnosed with a brain tumour and was immediately rushed to Sheffield hospital where he underwent a 10-hour surgery to remove the mass.

She said: “It’s so hard to even explain, it was so quick.

“They said ‘Jett has a brain tumour, we are blue-lighting you to Sheffield’.

“I can remember sitting in the ambulance ride.

“Not knowing what was going on, he was so excited to be in an ambulance and my journey was a complete blur, it was so bizarre.

“The nurse kept checkin
