PIC FROM KENNEDY NEWS AND MEDIA (PICTURED: BETH TSANGARIDES, 20, AFTER A SKIN FLARE-UP) This young woman is so 'allergic to HERSELF' that even laughter can leave her looking like 'an acid attack victim' - but has finally worn makeup for the first time in years. Beth Tsangarides says her skin and body react to 'everything' she does, flaring up when she laughs or cries 'too much' and even going into anaphylaxis from many foods, herbs and spices. Horrifying photos show the 20-year-old's scorched, weeping and scabby skin that baffled docs claim is a 'medical mystery'. Story from Jam Press (Traumatic Skin Condition)

Pictured: Assya Shabir.

‘I have rare butterfly skin condition – trolls say I look like Freddy Krueger’

A woman who suffers from an incurable condition says her skin is as “fragile as butterfly wings”.

Assya Shabir, from Birmingham, was born with junctional epidermolysis bullosa (JEB) – a form of EB that describes a group of genetic conditions that affect a person’s skin.

The 36-year-old often has to deal with blistering, open wounds, skin loss, friction and irritation – heavily impacting her day-to-day life.

She is often “judged or ignored” by strangers and is in and out of the hospital for treatment.

“My skin is as fragile as a butterfly’s wings,” Assya, who shared her journey on Instagram with her 10,900 followers (@assyaebqueeen), told NeedToKnow.co.uk.

“The slightest grip or even a bump can blister and graze my skin.

“It’s not just external; I get blistering in my oesophageal system, eyes, mouth, gums and other areas too.

“Living with JEB is complicated at the best of times, it doesn’t just affect me physically but mentally and emotionally too.

“It is hard to find genuine friendships and relationships.

“Some people don’t acknowledge me – they’ll judge or ignore me.”

Sadly Assya also has to put up people staring or making faces.

She said: “Most of the time I try not to react or even respond.

“But when I’m going through a flare-up and I’m already feeling worse because the pain is unbearable and I’m already feeling useless as it is, their looks hit hard and just make me feel like s**t.

“I’m sure you can imagine the kinds of comments I get too.

“Ironically it’s from adults more than kids – yes of course kids comment but they’re not aware of why I look different, I always say kids are very innocent.

“One of the worst ones I’ve had face to face is ‘you look like Freddie Kruger’ and ‘your mum should have aborted you’.

Josie Shanaham's XL Bully assistance dog Mars. November 13, 2023. Release date November 16, 2023. See SWNS story SWTPbully. A woman who uses an XL bully as an assistance dog will likely lose him under new laws - as she lives in a caravan. Josie Shanaham, 27, has bipolar and anxiety, and says her life was transformed by getting Mars when she was 25. Mars is classed as an auxiliary aid and has the same rights as a guide dog. She fears her home will not meet strict new guidelines being brought in around ownership of the breed. The Government has said that from December 31 owners must keep XL bully dogs on a lead and muzzled when in public, and in a secure place when at home. But Josie is worried her caravan will fall foul of the new laws around storage - and she'll have to lose her beloved dog. Josie, from Woodbury, Devon, said: "His presence and effect on my mental health opened up our lives and let us out of the cage. My mums able to work again, and Im able to go out and go to college by myself - which I could never have done before Mars." The Government is bringing in new laws around XL bullys after a spate of deadly attacks.
